Few women have taken advan-^ tage of their Leap Year preroga-. tive of making a marriage proposal, or se it would. seem xrom the vital statistics in Levin for the first quarter of the year. Marriages for the first quarter of ,1948 totalle'd 22 as against 21 for the same period during 1947. Apart from the slight increaseMn marriages, all other statistics for the quarter show a definitp decline. Births for the first three months of 1948 were 37, whiie for that period during 1947 there were 59. There have been 14 deaths so far this year, as against 19 for the same period last year. Vital statistics for the month of March are given below, with figures for the same month' of 1947 in parentheses : Births 17 (20), deaths 5 (8), marriages 5 (6) . ;.
