Progressive Year for Local Local Labour Party

The annual general meeting of the Shannon branch of the New Zealand Labour Party was held. in Laurvig's Hall on Saturday, March 20. There was a good attendance of members. . : • The balance-sheet snowed a substantial credit and the year's operations from a financial point of view proved an outstanding success. , . / , ° In reviewing the activities of the past year, the retiring presideiit, Mr. R. E. Downes, stated that the branch was in a very strong position and appealed to members to continue their interest in the years to come. He made mention of the reconstruction work of the Government over the past year,: and referred to the present trying times throughout the world. Mr. Downes concluded by extending his sincere tlianks to his committee for the assistance which they , had given, and announced that owing to his present appointment keeping him out of the -town so much, he would not be seeking re-electioh to the offiee of president. Tlie election of officers resulted: — President: Mr. S. Morrison; vice-president: Mr.. R. S. Downes; secretary-treasurer: Mrs. M. A. Pedersen; delegates to the Manawatu Labour Representatioh Committee : • Messrs. S. Morrison, R. E. Downes and C. Tremewan, and Mrs. Pedersen.
