The first 16 ih each of the anxateur and. professional di visions- will nxeet in nxateh play events t'o-morrow and Saturday. ' ' Gralloway played brilliant golf to win^ the lirst prize v of £150 in ' the prof es- ' sional division. He began' the day in an ' undistinguished fa/shion taking 40 for the lirst nine holes, liut he c.ame back i'n a brilliant' 32, four strokes under bogey. With the pressure on hiin this afterlxoon he eontinued to play easy and fnxished golf for his second 72 of the day. • A. E. Guy, who Jed the professional field by five strokes at.the en'd of tne first two rounds yesterday, faded out of the pieture to-day. A seven at tiie. sixth hole in the afternoon, followcd by a nine at the eiglxth where he put two drivers over the fence, wrote finish to his chances. . . .1 ■ . ' A. J. Shaw, of. Miramar, made a gallant recovery after his bad round oi 82 in the second 'round aaid his 147 for 36 holes to-day was line golf. Murray, .winner of the elxanxpionship last year, had great chances but slie-: ed drives cost hinx strokes at important .stages of the fourth round. Johnston hung on grinxly to the lead of six strokes he had built up over the first 36 holes and though he lacked the touch of yesterday, he vielded only oue strokes iix the finai total. P. G. F. -Smitli, fonxxor national amateur champion, made consistent lmprov'emeut over the four rounds but K. H. Glading, national open chanxpion, t'cll from grace with poor putlxng and indccurate tee slxots." It was evidenl soon after he started this morning that he would not seriously clxallenge Johnstoxx's lead. The best round of'the day, a 70, was scored by J. Weir, professional, who like Galloway eame home in 32 after. an unlucky outward half. Weir had chances of eatching the lead in the first nine in tlxe afternoon but he was short witJt about four putts and by the ninti hole Galloway 's success was assured.
