Keen Market For Fruit And Vegetables
Messrs. Townsen'd and Paul, Ltd., fruit and produce merchants; Wellington, report that during the past week, there has been a keen demand for most lines of fruit and vegetables. In the fruit section late plums are meeting with very keen demand and ceiling price 1s being readily obtained, while peaches are selling'freely up to 9s per case. Tomatoes are a little firmer this week. Vegetables have been particularly scarce, with ceiling price being readily obtained for practically all lines, the only exceptions being carrots and kumeras. Cauliflowers have been in strong demand, with values realising up to 28/6 per sack. Heavy yardings of poultry have been offered, with values still remaining firm. .
