LIME TRANSPORT SUBSIDY.
Inifial representations to the Minister of Agriculture to have the lime transport assistahc^ scheme back dated to October 12 the date of cancellation of the original subsidy, have not been favourably regarded. In fact the Mini'ster has replied to Federated Farmers that it would ,nqt be possible to have the present scheme made retrospec;'tive. from Npvember 24, when the new scheme was made operative. The Minister 's reason for refusing the Federation 's reijuest was that the date of operating the' new scheme — November 24 — was the subjeet of most caref uf consideration and was agreed I to by the Statutory Boards , and by j the Dairy Products Marketing (Jomjmission. As the farmer- himself pays ' 85 per cent. of t'he new subsidy -from the various Industry Stabilisation Aci counts, it is not likely that the Minister ;s decision made in consultation with the Board, will find favour with produc.ers; in general. A special committeb of' the Dominion Council . iof the Federation has the matter in hdnd and direct representations are to be made to the Prime Minister to have 'the Subsidy ^■baak-datetL-fc6/Oet@-ber -12.
