Two Young Men Fined On Theft Charge
Two young men at present working in Wellington visited Otaki on Monday last and entered the shop of Mr.' George Mann, butcher, taking a roast ,of beef , two dozen penciis, Dhree coats, a knife, iounlarn pen and 3s in silver, a total value of £7 15s. The young men, Daviu James Easton, with pi » /ious convictions, -and Nor-man George Douglas, appeared before Messrs. H. Nicoison and W. McBeth,. J.P.'s., on Thursday, charged with the oflence. Both pleaded guilty. Constable W. Calwell gave evidence in support of the charge, but stated that most of the articles stolen had been recovered. Easton hafi previous convictions, but not for the last four years, while nothing was krnown against Douglas. As thefts were prevalent in Otaki, the Bench inflicted a fine bf
£10 on Easton and £7 10s on Douglas, to be paid within 14 days, and ordered restitution to be made of the goods not recovered.
