Extension Of Swimming Baths Sought
That bonsideration be given tq ihe extension of the swimming . baths tq the full 100 feet was a request submitted to last night's Borough Council meeting by the Levin Amqteur Swimming and Life Saving Club.. The club asked that che wofk be done this winter so it would be sready for use by the next sv/imming season. The club stated that it would be willing to provide voluiiteer labour for the project, and offered the sum-of £50 towards the cost of materials, Commenting, the Deputy Mayor, Mr. D. J. Gardiner, said that the council should insist on the work not being commenced until all the material .was on the ground, proper supervision of the work by a paid authority on the Subject, who would' accept the * responsibility that i't would he carried out in a proper manner, that a guarantee be obtained from the club that it flnish the work after having once started on it and, finally, that the approval of the Building Controller be first obtained. The latter point was an important one as the main materials would be cement and steel, ,both of which were in short supply. The -whole project would cost £259 according to the estimates of a builder. Cr, F. D,' Chainey said that he would also like to see-a children's paddling pool -incorporated. Following discussion it wasagreed that it would be unnecessary to go further into the matter 'until a. permit for the. work was sought, and it was de.cided' that a letter to this. effeet' be sent to the club, together .with' the. councirs acceptance of the generous offer made in, .regard to the volunteer labour and. donation towards the cost. ^ .
