An aurora aust'ralis of a particularly brilliant nature ' was observed in Levin.last night shortly after 10 p.m. * ' . . ' ;/ .- D.escribing the display this morning, Mr. A. T. Kelk, of Princes Street, said it started with a sihgle needle ray in the southern horizon, quickly sprea'ding frqm east to west. apd gradually lengthening and bfoadening until the whole of the southern horizon became'a blaze of silvery light. As the light extended »upwards, the lower portion spffused into a greenish light .and at the same time the upper points turned to rose pink until within a quarter of " an hour of the appearance of the first light, the aurora had expan'ded almost from east to west. It reached its greatest intensity at 10.20 p.m. and then began to fade. By 10.30 very little was left. It was the best aurora he _ had .seen from Levin, said Mr. Kelk.
