R.S.A. Rooms In Community Centre
j • • . - • ; . i . • . Replying to the Shannon iBorough sCouncil's letter regarding !war meniorial subsi'dies, the assistiant' Under- Secr.etary of ' the Deipartment of Internal AfEairs iadvises that the question of the R.S.A.'s participation - in; war memorial community centres is one which has been raised in a number of places. "The position is that R.S.A. club rooms by themselves could not be subsidised. They could, how.ever, be incorpomted in a community centre and if the centre as a whole was approved for subsidy, the subsidy would be paid on all-imoheys raised locally for the. whdle icentfe, with the- exception, of cpiirse, o'f loah moneys." If 'was pointed out by the department that if such a course was adopted the rooms would not belong to the R.S.A. as the , centre had to* be vested in the local authority. There would, however, be no objection to the R.S.A. or any otiier local organisation, having the • use of certain rpoms . in the centre, provided the centre maintained its service" to the community as a whole. " •This matter arose following the receipt of a letter by the Shannon Borough Council at an earlier4 meeting from the local branch of the Refurned Services Association asking the council, as the controlling authority of the proposed war memorial hall, if the R.S.A. was to make a substantial donation to the hall fun'd would a room in the hall be allocated to the R.S.A., and would the R.S.A. be granted preference in the use of a room.
