Annual Meeting Of Athletic Football Club
A large numbcr ofshppoirters and players attende'd the ahhual gen"eral meeting of the Athletic Football Club, held on Thursday night. Many suggestions were put fbrward dealing with the physical training, which will be.undertaken by all thr.ee teams. Although no definite decision was reached, it is possible that each team will enter a side in "the indoor basketball competition. Other recreations, such as boxing, may be. adde'd. Another item which was discussed was the- introduction of lectures. These points, however, were left to the team coaches. The popular patron, Mr. C. Larsen, was returned, and other officers elected as follows: — President . Mr. H. Rippen; immediate past president: Mr. P. Collier; vicepresidents': Messrs. C, Wilkinson, J. Greatbach, D. Mercer, J. Renkin, R. Galloway, D. Walton and J. Parsons; club captain: Mr. D. Mercer; 'deputy club captain: Mr. J. Hughes; secretary: Mr. T. French; trcasurer : Mr. J. Corbishley; hon. auditor: Mr. G. Sorenson; gear custodian: Mr. L. Spicer; social committee: Messrs. R. Judd, _J. Powell, F. Goldstpne and I. Bond. Mr. "C. Wilkinson was appointed delegate to' the management . committee of the Horowhenua Rugby Union and Messrs. A. Galpin, J. Granger, W. Galloway, A.- Fletcher and H. Rippin were appointed to^ the club committee. Messrs. J. Granger and W. Galloway were appointed senior coaches, Mr. P.- O'Donnell junior coach and Mr. J. Elvidge third. grade coach. The- first practice Will take place on the domain on March 23 at 7 p.m. ' "The membership of the club showed a slight increasej. on the previous season," said the president, Mr. Rippin, in nls annual report." Although the teams did not win any of the H.R.U. championships, they acquitted themselv.es well, playing good football and showing good behaviour on the field. ' ' j "The club's social activities were • again very suqcessful. , Several ! socials were heid, visiting teams entertained, and several members who' were rharried during the j season were made presentations. ; One member was made a presentation on' his leaving the district. Palmer's property, and1 due to ■ the untiring efforts of the committee; proved very sucfcessful. The Carl Larsen Challenge Cup for field "events was won by R. Judd. ; He also won a cup presented by Mr. W. Marks. The runner-up was W. Galloway, winning a trophy pre1 sented " by Mr. Renkin. A cup pr.esented by Mrs. Rippin for a married v. single men's match, was won by the married men. A smoke concert held in the evening proved to be a very enjoyable function. "The balance-sheet showed the club's- finances : to be in a fairlyhealthy position."
