HASTINGS, March 11. Full support for the scouting and guiding nrovement as it progressed was, asked for by Lady Baden I'owell, cliief guide of (he world, wlien she replied to a civic reception in Hastings today at, the start of lier official tour tlirough New Zealand. She said she felt confrdeut that the movement was the most effective counter to the disruptive and subversive forces in the world. "We are going through the most difficmlt period perhaps in the world 's history," she added. "Wo must use overy tool put into our hands to see that the children are prepared for what is ahead of them. They must be trained and liighly developed in the qualit.ies of character, high living and selfsacriiice. " These were the things which countod, and she hoped lier tour through New Zealand would arouse a zest among adults to oncourage the youth of the country in eonstructive serviee.
