H.; Fraser, that an area about half .a. mile before. the eorner would ; shortly be buiit up, as it was in a bad piece of swamp country, and 'that the spoil from the bank could be used on tha-t project as filling, Commenting, the chairman,. . Mr. A. M. Cplquhoun, said that i£ the settlers at Koputaroa eouid put up with the position for a few jnonths more, the -spoil from the bank eouid well be utilised for the other project. It would .certainiy saye double Sandling. Cr. D. K. Guy said he would ;pre- ' fer to see the matter attendpd to j immediately, as it had "aire.ady been held up two years and the shortage of machinery might hold lup the other project for another two years. They could do with some spoil in front of tlie school in. any case. l Following further discussion, it agreed.that the matter be proceeded with as soon as possibie.
General Matters Seeking a culvert across a water race in front of his property, Mr. A. C. Pescini, .of Arapaepae Road, forwarded a letter to the council. .The' request was referred 'to the cou-ncillors for the riding- for investigation. * =• A letter from the • Waitarere Beach Progressive Associatibn sought permission for the bouncit's engineer to,. meet the association's members to 'di'scuss road .cdnditions at the entrance to the beach. ■ - The Levin u Borough Council wrote ad-vising the council that the question of an- extended high pres.sure water suppiy to the Ohau township had been referred to its works committee, and the county council would be advised • of the decision later. • A business firm wrote seeking permission to erect a revolving' isign on a property on the ' itiain | south road, near Ohau, withln 'the. fen.ee line "of a private settler. jDiseussing the request, the cliairIman stated that the road was not I a county one but a State highway. A eorner was not far away, however, and it might be considered that a revolving sign might distract the * attention of- motorists. The Beautifying Society would' probably have s.omething to say on j the matter. However, he did not. j know what legislation governed the erection of such signs, and as jthe property faced the State highway he thought it-wa"s a matter for the ' Public Works Department. It was decid,ed that the company be adyjsed to that effect. He had reeently purch'ased a building site in Bartholomew Road and htted a' culvert over a council water race at his own expense. wrote Mr. I. D. Griffiths. He added that the culvert was stili not suitaple for he.avy traffic, and required a load of filling at-each side as an approac.h. He also sought permission to shift the water race 18 inches closer to the boundary, which operation he was willing to carry put" himself with the couneil's approval. It. was decided tc refer 'the matter to the councillors for the riding to enquire into.
