Golden Wedding Celebrated In Otaki

A golden" wedding celebrated on •March 3 create'd much interest in t Otaki and surrounding districts. Mr. ( and Mrs. C. P,„Jensen, of Aotaki ( Street, Otaki/, marked the occasion j toy enterfcaining many of their i relatives and friends at a dinner m , the Hautere Hall. ' Mr. Jensen w-as b-orn in Denmark • and caihe to New Zealand at the ; age of 19 -to join his' uncle in Halcombe. Mrs. Jensen was born at Stoney Creek, being the elder daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H._ S. John. They were marrie'd at Kim- 1 ; bolton in 1898 by the Rev. Mr-. I Griffiths. They then farmed at f Apiti, , Makino, Kimbolton and Ballance, finally settling in Te Horo i-n 1914- and subsequently retiring to Otaki about 10 years ago. The hall and tables.were beautifully decorated with autumn flowers and foliage, mingled with greenery, while the walls were adorned with golden horse shoes, four-leaf clover and butterflies. Mr. and Mrs. Jensen, assiste'd by their bridesmaid, Miss A. M. John, received the guests in the porch, where on display were Mrs, Jensen's wedding dress, which had also been her mother's, and family photographs. Mrs. Jensen was wearing a navy silk frock, navy hat and accessories, and a gold-tone'd shoulder spray. Miss John's frock was of figured silk, with a light blue ground, Mr. and Mrs. Jensen, followed by their family, entered the hall to the strains of the bridal march played by Mrs. Herbert Tews. On reaching their table they were presented with a golden horse shoe by two small grand-'daughters. The four-tiered wedding cake had been made by their daughter, Mrs. C. Strom. The flower which stood on top decorated their wedding cake 50. years ago, while the silver horse shoes adorned their silver weflding cake. Rev. W. B. Mrs. jensen was a foundation member -of ! the - Te Horo Women's \ 'Ihstitute, a Vice-president and now a life-member of the Otaki-Te Horo branbh of the Women's Division .of Federated Farmers, , an honorary idce-presldent of the'Te Horo Pluhket Society and has 'also worked for the Methodist Guil'd. Mr.- Jensen, in replying, welcomed all his friends who were present, and regretted that many were unable to be with them. He then proposed the toast of the bridesmaid, his sister-in-law, the Rev. Mr. Kean replying on behalf of Miss John. The toast of the deseendants was proposed by Mr. Vic Cottle- and replied to by Mr. Eric Jensen, while Mr. F. H. Hu'dson proposed the toast of /'Absent Friends." During the afternoon guests were entertained by Miss D. Avery, ; who sang a bracket of two numbers accompanied by Mrs. H. Tews, i "and by Mr. Ron Jensen, who played 1 the banjo, accompanied by his -mother, Mrs. Leo Jensen. Mr. and Mrs. Jensen received numerous letters and telegrams of, congratulations, . including mes- I sages from relatives in Denmark1 and U.S.A., while Mrs. Jensen also received- a number of bouauets, including -one from the Otaki-Te Horo Women's Division and Te Horo Women's Institute. Visitors from a distance included Mr. and Mrs. H. R. H. John and Miss K. John (Te Teko), Miss A. M. John ■ (Dannevirke) , Mrs. N. Jensen and Mr. Denis Jensen (Kimbolton), Mr. and Mrs. J. Callesen (Karere) , Mrs. Monks (Dannevirke) and members and former members of the Horowhenua County Council.'
