LONDON, March S. The Miiiister of War, Mr. E. Shinwell, was subjected to continual intcrjections, booing and heckling wheu he spoke on belialf of the Labour caudidate, £Lr. Haro.ld Nicolson, in the Croydon bv-election eampaign. The disturbanee began as Mr. Shinwell attempted to answer charges that he had acted (liscoarteously wlien Mr. Gliurchill asked him, as chairman of tlie Labour Party, to agree to Labour •rnoiubers attending the conference at The Jlague 011 European uuitv. The audience loqdly clieered uieiitiou of blr. Churchill 's. jiame, and booed brr,fShin vvoll, vvlio rejoined: "We showedJlr. Gliurchill more courtesy than s.ome of you are showi.ng. me." Later in his speech, wlipn Mr. Sjhinwell said: " Mr. Gliurchill will havjti to' jiut up witli us for a Jong timo, there was a fresh chorus of clieers for ]\fr. Churchill which dro'wped the reinainder of .Mr. tShinvvell 's j'emarks. Whefl Mr. Bhinwell went 011 to talk about the Army, ;in interruptei' juuiped up and demanded: "Have you eyer been in the Army?" Mr. iShinwell: "What's the inatt'er? Aren't you feeling weli?" At this reply there was a chorus of sliouts froni the audience: "Go on, answer — have you been in the Army " Mn BhinwelL continued his speecli vvithout ansvvering the question.
