Arthur Frederick Angelotie-Mackensen, a forrner Luftwaffe puot who was arrested by American Intelligeiice offieers iiear Nurembei'g, claimed that Hitler and Eva Braun safely escaped from the Berlin Cliancell ery liunker late in April, 1945, and when he iast saw them they were en route by air to Spain.. Angelotte-Mackenseii said two Messerschmitt aireraft were made -ready for Hitler Js eseape during tlie week before the eollapse of Berlin. Hitler aiid Eva Braun and (Hitler 's deputy, Martin ' * Bormann made their way from the Chancellcry on f'qot'towards the" Templ'ehof Airport where the planes were waiting, hut on the way Bormann was killed. f The planes, of which Angelotte-Mackenscn claimed he piloted one, finally took off with Hitler and Eva Braun in one maehine and an escort of S.H. Guards in the other.
