Effect Of Unsuitable Films On Children
CHRISTCHURCH, March 10. After discussmg the etfects of •'films upbn children, the annual conference of the Dominion Federation of School Committees and Associations this morning' p&ssed a remit that the proprietors of- picture theatres be forced to abide by the censor's decision in v notadmitting children under the age of 15 where films were recommended for adults. As Qriginally submitted, the remit provided that the age be 14, but ari amendment raising it to 15 was carried. Members said that a more dis-~ criminating approach by parents was needed. The last remit on the subject had beefi pkssed on to the Internal Affairs Department, who had placed the onus oh parents. Mr. W. j. Wilson (Wellington) said that the child nlind cravecf a Certain amount of excitement, which should do no harm. There was a "lot of humbug" talked about films. Some films were absolute rubbish, but the majority were harmless. Delegates claimed that it was necessary to ensure that in double feature programmes films suitable only for adults should not be put on with films for general exhibi-tion.
