Soviet Industrial Output Exceeds Goal
Received Wednesday, 9.20 a.m. NEW YORK, March 9. The Soviet has submitted statistics to the United Nations showing that her industrial production in 1947 was 22 per cent, higher than in 1946, . and exceeded the goal by 3-1- per cent. The Soviet report said that of the Ministries responsible for the various economic activities, * 24 equalled or exceeded their targets for 1947, while six fell only slightly short of their objectives. The manufacture of metals and metal products in 1947 was substantially ahead of 1946, with pig iron and steel registering 14 per cent. and nine per cent. gains respectively. Farm machinery production was more than doubled.
