Tbere was little cilange in the positions at the end of eight miles whicli were compieted in 49inui. 35sec., Wells, Bromley ajid Clarke Oeing 20 yards ahead of Browne and irox who had opened up a gap of about 50 yards on Littler. Fincliani and Artliur were 10 minutes behind the leaders at this stage ot' the journey and Barr fol lowed four minutes liiter. Wells. Clarke, and Bromley were togother over Ihe next live miles but with Clarke forcing the pace. Wells collapsed atter 10 miles had been covered. Clarke runniiig strongly opened up a gap of 100 yards from Bromley in the next miie, covoring the 20 miles in 2 hours 4 minutes. Fox was 75 yards back l'ollowed by Browne and Littler.
