The Masterton Racing Club was favoured with brilliantly fine weather for their Autumn meeting, which was held at Opaki on Saturday, and although the petrol restrictions niade some difference, there was a satisfactorory attendance. The . to'talisator .turnover was £37,853/10/-, compared with £39,031 last year, The course was hard but theyfields were good and there wero a number of thrilling ifinishei i |n the; princapal race, the J|M. Jaines ' Mentbrial, Mr. G. McDone'lf s mare, Mbrotai, finisRed very ga'inely to' beat Barrage by a nebk with Tenor Royal in third plaee, and the open sprint was won by Fleetwood from Cot-case and -Tanith.

There was another close finislx in tlie secoiid race, which was won by Paper KufTle by half a head from Silver Mascot half a head in front of Connnercial which niade up a Jot of ground over the last furlong. Belle Mignonne was i'ourth and . Sailor 's Lass was fifth. There were oniy seven starters, but thrcc place dividends were paid because of the late scratching . pf Lady Myrtle. * Determination Won Decisively Determination improved upon the showing she made at Bulls to win the Trial Stakes by half a length from Sunshine Bay half a length aliead of Golden Hope, which made up a good deal of ground in the straight. Incision was fourtli and Gay Fellow, always badly placed, was fifth. Ju a good finish Wuper Lake hung on lo win by the best part of a length from llaere Huku a neck in front of Itord llolland. Gay Bport was fourth and Tuki Ngapo was fif'tli. False Step Was Brilliant llalf-way down the straight in tlic concluding ovcut it'looked as if any oue of half a dozen horses could win and the issue was stili clouded witli under oue hundrod yards to go. Then False Btej), with a brilliant run, drew right away to win as she iiked by three lengtlis from Diana Reynard, -which, last to ieavo the mark, had had to uiake up a lot of ground.
