A meeting of over one thousand carpenters which was held in the Auckland Town Hall on Saturday moriiing decided tp Kold- a one-day strike tomorrow as a protest against the prosecution of union " offioiais involved in the present disputp. Jt stateo that arrangoments were being mactC for union m'emhers to -parade the city after the meeting at the park. The parade would probably be led by tne Auckland Waterside Workers' Banct. A repor-t on the-i, proceeffiijgs which had taken place in Wellington witn the National Oouneil of the Federa-' tion of Labour was gi.ven by tlie national seccetary of the union (Mr. Jt. Stanley), and a resolution endor-sing the decisions of the national executive .or tlie union- -to- reject the compromise ofi'ered by the Minister of Labour (Uon. A. A'fcLagan) was earried. A furtlier r.esolution passed was thai in \ iew of the settlement of the cn.spute being in tlfe hands of the JNa tional Oouneil the meeting was of tne opinion that the strike action was solely the responsibility of the Prinie Alinister (Alr. Fraser) in refusirig to stay the legal proceedings against the pfficials. A vo.te of confldenee in the or(icials of the union was earried, omy four memebrs dissenting. On the platform were ofher tractes union representatiyes, officials of the Transport 'Workers' Federation and tne Auckland T.rades Oouneil. Speakers described the Minister 01 Labour 's ternis for the settlement 01 the dispute as a "sell out,''' and a resu lution was- earried endorsing tlie actions of the Oarpejiters ' Union 's nationa' offlcers and approving the rejection oi Ihe Afinister's proposals.
