Athletic And Cycling Club Meets
A meeting of menibers of the . Otaki Amature Athletic and Cycling Cluh was held on Thursday night J The presi'dent, Mr. Fred Edwards, was in the chair and there was a splendid attendance, with the utmost interest taken in the proceedings. • ^ ; Several donations, some of a very substantial nature,. were receive'd ( from supporters of the club, andj hearty votes of thanks were accord- j ed them. ■ ' The Wellington Centre wrote stating that seven riders from the ! centre would be competing at the | championship meeting in Dunedin, | among the number being D- Smith, Otaki's promising young rider. This cyelist was warmly congratulated on his achievements in various towns, it being stated. that he had "placed Otaki on the map as far as sport was concerned. It was unanimously agreed that he b'e voted i £10 towards 'his expenses to ('Dunedin. Arrangements , are in train to get Smith away by Mondhy. Regret was expressed that his club mate, Ted Mathie, had suffiered a brokeh collarbone. Mr. D. Blake, on behalf of the Horse Club, asked the club to assist in the sports at Hautere on Easter Saturday, and it was agreed that this be given, while several members of .the cluh. volunteered to help the horse club in the preparations of the grounds. It was stated by the president that some years ago, when the , athletic club's financies were low, the horse club had come to its assistance, and by its help had placed the club on a sound footing, a matter that had been fully appreciated. A suggestion that a sports gathering be held in the near future was not agreed to. A vots of, thanks was accorded Mr. Mudge for his interest in the plub and the fact that he had been the means of increasing its funds. It was agreed to write. to the holders of Ihe trophies- and ask that they' be returned. When the hol'de'rs had done this each would be presented with a miniature cup. It was ' dfeci'ded to write " to Mfs. Puss4ll 'and thank her for her gen- , erous'!donatioh of a memofial cup, which would be eompeted for at the 'inext big meeting. i Other matters of a routine nature 'were transacted and a vote of thbnks to the chairman concluded a suecessful meeting.
