Coalminers Decide To Join Railwaymen

BRISBANE, Afareh 5. The conference between the Premier (Alr. Hanlon) and the eentral disputes committee has failed to settle the Queensland railway strike. The committee, w'hich now represents the 19 unions invmlved jn the strike, rejected an ap peal by the Premier to submit the dispute to the Industrial Court oncc more. It was resolved to recommena the continuation of the strike to mass meetings of men throughout the State to-day. "The disputes committee wanted tiie (fo vernment to agree to tlieir demanas just as they had made them," said Alr. Hanlon after the conference with the committee. ."I inforn'ied them thav the dispute must eventually be settleu by the Arbitration Court." By a 'niajority of 7-00, the Queensland coalminers decided to come out 011 strike to-day 111 svmpathy with tiie railwaymeii. i'lie poJl went at ffrst in favour of non-intervention, but the outlving mines deelared solidlv in favour of the, strikers. The resuft is that 320U coalminers have accepted the recommendation of tlieir executive to impose a ban on the hewing of coal for loadijig 011 trains manned by nonsU'iKing railwaymen.
