Paid Carpenters Too Much
CHRISTCHURCH, March 4. Sununoiises have heen issued against three master builders of Christchurch on charges of breaking the stahilisation regulations by paying carpen-cers in their employ more than basic rates. The cases are set down for hearing ,^next Monday. Monday is also the day on which charges will be heard against the president and secretary of the Canterbury branch of tlie Carpenters' Union. In their case the summohses are for allegedly inclting to strike. Confirmation that action was being taken against certain empldyers in the building trade, was. given tonight by Mr. J. R. •Smith, president of th§ Canterbury Master Builders' Association. He declined, however, to give any details, saying that the matter "would be sufhciently ventilated when it eame to court". ( It is known that a speeial meeting of the Master Builders' Association was held after the summonses had been issued but no report of any decision taken is available. The ' prosecutions against. the builders v/ho are deseribed as ' 'well known contractors"., -will be Conducted by the Crown Law Office.
