School Committee's Monthly Meeting

The mohthly meeting of the Otaki State School Committee was held on Tuesday night, Mr. H. Taylor ' presi'ding. There were also present Messrs. 'N. Taylor, W. A. Calwell, A.. G, Kirkwood, H. Nicolson, L. G. Gimblett (secretary) and J. E. James (headmaster) . Apologies were received from Messrs. H. B. Edhouse, V/. Wilson and A. Lumley. ' The matter of better accommodation at the school was discussed and it was agreed that this be further con^idered later. It was deci'ded to ask the board to assist in improving boundary fences by supplying material, it being considered that the work would be carried" out with the assistance of the committee's eiforts. •Mr. Calwell was deputed to attend to the securing of a typewriter and duplicator for use at the school. Messrs. Edhouse and Nicolson were re-appointed visiting com•mitteemen for the month. ' Headmaster's Reuort "During the month Messrs. Stevenson an'd Milne were transferred to permanent positions," said the headmaster's report, "and Misses ' Steel and Heron were appointed to fill their positions. The teachers and children assembled on Monday last after the latter had been kept from school because ■>f the infantile paralysis. During February all children from Primer.3' to Form 2 received - some form of correspondence work. Approximately 90 per cent. of these classes attempte'd some of the work, while aboUt 40 per cent. did excellently. I appreciate the effort the busy mothers made to see tha^t the work was earried out. "During the. month of February,while the children were not attending, Mr. G. H. Stubbs (senior inspector) and Miss Lourie (infant ■room advisor) visited the school to discuss various aspects of work with the teachers of the Otaki, Te Horo and Manakau Schools.
