The show lasted less than an hour and the crowd refused to disperse for some time altliough urged to do so by tlie poliee. Kinally .Jante was, escorted from the hall by a polieeman and disappeared in a taxi. Some spectators entered the dressing roqm after the show .and plied. the magician witli qu-estions as to why he had failed to present his advertised act of cutting th rough the torso of a winsome lass, and the nouappearance of J. Chandos — "Nothing on earth can" liold him. He escapes from _ eream eans, inail bags, and straitjackets. " Jante 's explanation was that the eream cans and .other gear had been delayed at Oamaru.
