Last British Troops Leave India
Beceived Sunday, 7.0 p.m. i ' BOMBAY, Feb. 28. ,The last British troops left India When . the- First— Battalion, ' of the Somerset Light Infantry embarked ceremonially in the troopship Ernpress of Australia fqr Britain. MajorGeneral L. G. Whistler, conmtander of the o British troops in India sinee January l, and his staff, accompanied the battajion. All-India radio broadcast a mdfesage froin Mr. Nebru wishing the departing troops God-speed and good wishes. An Indian Army guard of honour participated in the departure ceremony. There were bands, banners qnd the singing of Auld Lang Syne. Crowds of Indians cheered, clapped ant waved goodbye.
