WELLINGTON, Peb. 29. Tliougkj the only iuatch New ZealancL wou i-ii tlie tennis test against Austraiia on the Mitehell Park courts, Lower fiutt, was played on Priday, there is no. doubt the home team put up a mueL better peTformance on _ Saturday tlian on tlie lirst dav. The greater speed and 'severity ' of the Anstralians was stili obvious b,ut in all the singles' matehes there were stages when the New Zealanders either gained the upper hand or fully extended the ultimate vdctors. Particularly pleasing was. the . -perfyrmance .of O. Bold, who took P. Sedguian, Austraiia, to three sets. Jones. Miss E, Attwood took oue oif Misw M. Toorney. Miss B. Potter j>ut up another splendid performance against Miss M. In his tvvo sets against Brown, Dobson showed he has probably improved tnore than anv of his team mates in the period since the New Zealand cham [jionships, particularly as a resuit of his contact Avith the visiting players. The New Zealand chamxjion, K. McKouzie, suft'ered a lightning defeat in his lirst set against Austraiia 's W. Sidvvell, winning no games and oniy live points in an 81- niinute contcst. II e proved worthy of the Australian in the second set, however, winning the lirst Iwo games. The doubles between Sidwell and G-. Brown and McKenzie and J. Eobson, was dropped in favour of an exliibition uiatch between the four Austraiians. McKenzie had a sore wrist and this uiay have been troubling kiin.
