Lana Turner has been suspended by M.G.M. for refusing to play Lady de Winter in "The Three MusketeersV " She strongly denies that the causeof the whole trouble has'anytking to do with frer recent unfavourable publicity over her romance with millionaire Bob Topping. Laha also denied that she agreed to make the film.
"For over a year the studio has brought pressure to bear to make me say 'yes' to 'The Three Mus~keteers,' " eomplained Lana. "Lady de Winter was a small part, and in the last 12 months I have made three iniportant starring films, 'Green Dolphin Street,' 'Cass Timberlane' and 'Homecoming.' I have never before had studio trouble. I have always tried to be co-oper«-tive, and I am very hurt at Ihe studio's arbitrary attitude."* M.-G.-M. producer Pan'dro S. Berman, on the other hand, says that the studio has gone ahead with the Dumas story after Lana had agreed to play Lady de Winter. The studio had also advanced Lana £82,000 and given her a holiday to boot. She promised that she would return to the studio in January for the film, and, due to her refusal, M.-G.-M. stand to lose £150,000.' Outside rumour is that Lana is asking the studio for a long vaeation for a honeymoon when she marries millionaire Topping — who is still not divorced from his former wife, Arlene Judge. Lana, it i.s said, is wearing Topping's ring, a 23-carat diamond, on the fourth finger, left hand. Topping has atyo bought her as a wedfiing present a diamond necklace • worth £41,000. Lana is classed as the most romantic actress in Hollywood. She cert^inly moves fast in her wooing! Topping is her fourth prospective husband in 12 months.
