Woodville Candidates In Final Gallops
Pollowing light xaiil on Wednesday the plongh was in splendid order when horses racing at Woodville were given their finai work at Awapuni yesterday. However, the progranime was a light one and there were few serious trials. Prince Wanaka (D. Collins) galloped a mile, being joiiied by Flirtatious (W. L. Aitken) for the last seven run in. 1.32 3-5. Tliey travelled well ali through and were going stronglv kt the i ihiisk after running the last three in 41 3-5.
Anotlier good gallop was that of Meteorina (A. (1. Waddell) and Emerge (E. Saimders). It was over seven furlongs and after being given time to lind their feet they were home well to com plete in 1.33 3-5, the last six in 1.20. Grav Stroller (S. Waddell) was exer-c-ised and then sen't away short of the six. He maintaiued a steady pace and was timed to run the last live" in 1.5 1-5. He looks to be in excellent order for Woodville. Newel Post (P. C. Cleaver) and Nighthena (S. Waddell) were shaken up to complete seven in" 1.35. They were under restraint to the tliree, reached in 54 2-5, but they broke 41 for the last three. Lady Barrington (G. R. Tattersall) , with Havildar (B. Boreham) to bring her hoipe from the half mile, covered five in 1.6, the last three in 40. It was a good effort.
Specialist (N. Crombie) was- in front of Fluctuation (Aitken) at .the end oi fiye in 1.6 3-5 and'he was going wei-l enough at the finish to suggest he eould have done better than 41 for the last three. Lord Iyerry worked over six in 1.24, the last three in 41, and Ensign (Boreham), Gerolaek (S. Waddell) and Kippo (Saunders) finished well to cover five in bettei than 1.9. Additional riding engagements foi Woodville are for G. E. Tattersall who will ride The Stormovik and Lady Myrtle. Other gallops included a mile by Sea Fury and Torrent in 1.54.2-5; live furlongs by Winning Ticket and Golde.n Basket 'in 1.7 1-5; seven by Theiolyn in 1.37; three furlongs b,v Gay Fellow in 39; and five furlongs by West Wall and Good Music in 1.7 2-5. Craven (D. Collins) was schooled amd jumped cleanly and fast. Re.d Glare is back at Awapuni and he looks a picture. He is ih L. Knapp's stable.
