Results Of Dominion Brass Band Championships

DUNEDIN, Feb. 19. St. Kilda and Wellington Watersiders Bands will l)e bracketed as tiie Do minion's champion bands of the year, both -being awarded 39 poinLs in the A grade Ciiampionship which was coin- | pleted tonight. St. Kilda gave a super- : lative performance but was headed by both Wellington Waterside and Woolston in the lirst test. Both bands have 1 be-en very consistent -for some years an# Woolston, which iinished three ciiampionship points behind, again showed that it always has to be reckoned with in a contest. Results: — A Grade Test.

The quartets (own clioice) which were closely contested, groduced a particularly liiglft standard, the judge Dr. Griffiths, stating that apart from the best band performance they were the most pleasing lteard at the festival so far. The Solo, under 17, was divided into two seetions — comets and other instruments. The judge commented enthusias'tically on the outstanding , performances, but. regretted the absence of the flugel horn and troinbones. ResuLts: —

Little. (Palmerston North Silver), 89 points, 2; A. Sturzaker (Wanganui Garrison), 88 points, 3. Second section (any other instruments), A. Neale (Crichton Cobbers), 86 points, 1; B. Gordon (Kaikorai), 85 points, 2; S. Cowie (Hawera), and M. Tliomas (Queen Alexandra), 84 points; equal, 3. Thirty-two eompetitors.
