New Zealand Achieves London Reputation
LONDON, Feb, 11. A New Zealander who has established a reputation for himself in London as a theatrieal director and designer L Terence Morgan II to distinguish him He is at present in eharge of design.-. for a new fllm being made by Powet. and Pressburger, of the J. Arthur Rank organisation. It is called "Red shoes" and the s'torv is centred round balle. daneers. Its flrst showing is due in April. Mr. Morgan, who is usually billed as Terence Morgan 11 to distinguish him from an American actor of the sam; nanie, was edueated at the New Plymouth Bov's Higlx Schooi andjle.f't. There he acted on Broadway and studied designing until he left for ' England to volunteer to joiu the ranks in the R.A.F. Aftei service in Great Britain and Itaiy he returned to theatrieal work in 1946 and he has been hard at work evei since. His lirst engagement was to design a ballet- "Troilus 'and Cressida" for presentation in New York with Aiuy St. Just in the lead. Next he designed costumes and sets for a revue ' ' ilere 's Ilow", which has toured the English provinces and is now in ireland before going to Canada. After that- he directed and designeo "Distant Point" and "The Doctor'. Dilemma" for presentation at the Tavis toelc Little Theatre in London. Las, Ohristmas he designed the costumes and sets for the pantbmime "Alladdin1 at the Bristol Old Vie with Marie Burkc in the lead, His work was greatly ap preeiated and he became one of the few designers to take a curtain ea]]. Tn addition ,to giving an exhibition of his theatre design, s at the Emiiassy Theatre, London, he has also lectured on tlie theatre in Edinburgh. He is no vv .working on dcsigns for the full length revi val of ' ' The Bleeping Bo'auty ' ' which is to be produoed.by tfle Inter national Baliet in London next May. Ko also h:is a retaining contraet to design for Independent Films.
