Oversnas rejiorts on the Ealklanl Islands territorial dispute, have creatod some uncertainty about arrangemcnts at present in train for the shipment-of slieej) to these islands f'rom New Zealand via Montevideo in April or May. lni[uiries made in Wellington re.vealed that the overseas shipowners' allot ment comrnitlee has offered Dalgety aua Co., Jud., space on three ships for a total of about .100 slud and flock sheep to go as far as Alonte\'ideo. Mos't oi the sheep would be eonsigned to the mainland "but a considerable numbo;would be for transhipment to the ■Falklands. The last big consignment of sheep to go to the Falklands from New •Zealand, was sent to Port Stanlev from Auckland in Xovomber, 15)40, by Dal gely and Co. and the New Zealand Loan and ALercantile Agency, Co., Ltd. These two agencies and also Wrigii!, Stephenson aml Co., Ltd., have been making periodic shipments of lives'toc.k to.alling many hundreds, over a long period of vears, in^ fuKilment of orders from privale comp'anies and also from the British (loveniment. In the last ,10 vears, Falkland Island sheep docks have been based largely on New Zealand foundation stock. A limited number jf eattle has also been sent from New Zealand. With the shipping ditlieulties of reeent vears. vessels ealling at the Falklands have been available only' occasionallv and irregularly. Oue agency stated shipments have been eveii more diliicult to arrange since the war th.in during the hostilities and that costs have risen steeply, especially where transhipment from the Argentine co ist was necessarv. An endeavour is being ntade to arrange for vessels trading between Xow Zealand and the Unit ed" Kingdom tr call more regularlv at the islands but the luiited Kingdom Trade Commissioner, Xlr. Ii. Boulter, stated today that negotiations were held up pending the arrival of further iuformation from the Falklands.
