Local Teams Beaten In Weekend Cricket
I The Shannon Cricket Club's 'teams suffered defeat in the two j cricket fixtures played on the 'domain over the weekend. In the oompetition match played against ! Foxton on Saturday the visitors scored an eight point win over the home team. Shannon went to the. wicket first and were all out with 95 runs on the board, Tippler 33 and McNeile 13 were the only play- ' ers 1/o reach double figures while Holden, bowling for Foxton, secured five of the Shannon wiekets for J 15 runs to top bowling honours. I When Foxton went to the wicket, things looked bad when three ! wiekets had fallen for 12 runs and it appeared that the home team i would have an easy victory. How- ! ever, a partnership between Holden I and Green brought the score to 95 before the fourth wicket fell. Holden's brilliant score of 73 included 12 boundaries. Green's ..total was 21. Ryburn with 29 and Walls 20 not out, also batted well for the visitors. Hobbs, with three wiekets for 41 and Moore, with four for 56 iwere the top bowlers for Shannon, jln their second innings Shannon jreturned a score of 77. Hobbs 23, McNeile 19 and Moore 11 not out being the best batsmen. Holden, Rogers and Carmont shared bowling honours. With five minutes to spare after passing Shannon's score, Foxton declared to secure an eight point win. On Sunday a friendly match between the local club and a Longburn team was played. Shannon in their first innings scored 52, Harris, 11; Bradey and Seaton 10 each being the only players to, reach double figures. Longburn replied with 161 runs. J. Mabey 45 R. Adrock 34, B. Ryder 30, Aitken 15 and E. Francis 10, were, top batsmen. Shannon in their second innings replied with 176, Pope 51, Wadsworth 43 and 31- topped batting honours. At the complqtion of the match, Mr. J. Mabey, .on behalf of the Longburn players, expressed thanks to the local club for the very enjoyable match. Mr. C. Mortimer replied on behalf of the Jocal team.
