ATTORNEY-GENERAL'S WARNING.
Received Monday, 7.0 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 16. There must be no wage increases in Britain for the next three years, said the AttorneyOeneral, Sir Hartley Shawcross. Britain faced disaster if higher vvages unrelated to production were cTemanded at this tirne, he warned. Higher wages . would mean a loss of export market andi would send Britain on the road to eomplete collapse. He repeatec Sir Stafford Ciipps's statement of last week that profits and priees must be voluntarily reduced or ;the (lovernment would have tc take aetion. After a three-yea) wage freeze. it was "a safe bet" that the average standard of real wages would become higher. All rcstrictive practices in industry must go and every worker mus1 increase his output. There would have to be overall planning and control by the Government and the large potentialities of the Em ' pire developed. When. that had been done, Britain, with her
colonial tefritories, would reeover her leading trade position and influence.
