A U CKL ANiJ, Feb. 15. . After two days' play in the crieket rnateh between Auckland and Fiji, the home side is assured of an outright vietory. Ilaving lost six wiekets in the second innings for 121 runs, Fiji'stiii requires. 231 to win. At the eonelusion of the first day of play, Fiji had niade 49 for two wiekets in reply to Auckland 's total in the first innings of 340. .Fiji was dismissed for 143 and Auckland, which did not.enforee a follow on, deelared its second innings ciosed with iive wiekets down for 154. It was a day of - very interesting crieket. and ideal .conijitions prevailed. The Fijians, with their excellent fielding, exeept for a* couiile of lapses in eatching, and fine running between the wiekets, proved very popuiar with the speetators. The Fijians were paipably worried bjr the wicket as the bait did not conie up in the same manner as that to which they are aceustomed at home. Many deliveries, too, kept very low and no doubt contributed to some extent to the failure of the visitors in batting. A feature of Fiji's first innings was the third wicket partnership between Bula and G. Cakobau which yielded 80 runs in 75 minutes. Bula hit Hollywood for a fine six over the niid-oft" boundary which fell well clear of the fenee. He batted for 84 minutes for 44 and hit three fours and oue six. Bula is also top scorer to date in Fiji's second innings with 3(5 in 75 minutes ineluding Iive foars. Fo'r the first time on the tour 0r. Cakobau struck form making 33. After the dismissal of Bula and Cakobau in the morning, Fiji's batting slumped, the side being out at 12.50 p.m. for 143 in .164 minutes. It was Jeft to W. M. Wallace to provide the highlight in the batting 'in Auckland 's second innings and he playcd liis part well. Wallace scored 40 in 25 riniiutes and hit six fours. He was dropped at 12 and 32.
