Copuright)
Received Sunday, 7.25 p.m. LONDOX, Feb, 15. Mr. Churchill, in a broadcqst calliug- upon all parties to rally i. •the drive t'or na'tional reeovery. said it was the duty oi everyone, without distinetion oi' party, to do his utniost to inerease Britain 'x produetive capacity and exporting power. 11c stressed that hc wa* 'not proposing a coalition. Mr. Churchill said the spirit oi the Soeial ist Party rancour was: oue oi the most serious laotors in causing the present economic and financiaP crisis. The (Jovernment should set an example by putting aside l'or tlu: titne being, par*\ iads and prejudices which weri obslaeles to national unity. "The (lovernniont, while we are hard put to get our daily bread. has aetually given oi- lcn't £750,- ()(){),()()(), nearly as inuch as the American loan, to other eountries. II r. Dalton spent in his Budget l'or three vears more than £10,000, 000. 000. The money we earn buys less every day and thus endangers our xavings and soeial services. " Mr. Churchill criticised Ihe" Covernment 's intention to nationalise the steel induslry which, he said, was bcating all ])roduction records. "The liL'ebuoy to which we are elinging in our dixtress is to be turned into another mill stone to drag- us down into the depths, " he added. "The first ste}) to national reeovery, and in deed survival, is to havo a new Parliament which will allow the laws oi supply and domand to play thcir part subjcct to whatevcr sal'eguards are needed during Ihe timo oi 1 ransition. "Our wholc lii'e is being handled the wrong way round. Socialist planners, by restric+ions, mahe scarcity and wlien scarcity comes they call l'or more restrictions to cure it. They keep the British bulldog running' round al'ter his own tail until he is dizzy. They tlien wonder that he cannot keep the wolf I'roin the door. " Air. Churchill said the Covernment and OppositioJi were united in tlieir resistance to Communist cons})iracy and there was general egi eement among all parties, except a small but venomous Conim.unist faction. on the broad lines oi Britain 's foreign policy. "1 am sorry, however, that certain Socialist elements are trying to mahe the cause oi a united Europe a Soeialist Party monopoly. The Covernment is boing drawn into a grave and anti-social error trying l'or an exclusive union oi the Soeial ists oi Europe. Soeialists by themselves cannot weave Europe togethcr. They will need the help and goodwill oi all men in all lands. It is a wanton, reckless act Toi- the British Soeialist Party to trv to paralyse all other ei'ioi'ts. "
