Presentation To Retiring Foreman

The opportunity was taken at the fortnightly meeting, of the Shannon Borough Council on Tuesday evening to make a presentation to Mr. ,F. Haley, who retired from the position as borough foreman' at the end of last year after serving on the staff for 25 years. In making the'' pr esentatioii of a vhandsome clock, the Mayor, Mr. D. A. Fitzgerald, thanked Mr. Haley fpr his many years of sterlirig service as foreman, and wishej him many happy 'years in retirement. Speaking as an.old councillor, Cr. H. Aitchison stated that .he had been associated with Mr. 'Haley for many years on the council, and he had. always found him a very sincere.worker in the interests of the borough. He hoped that both Mr. and Mrs. Haley would have many years of good health and happiness to'enjoy during their retirement. The town clerk CMr. J. T. Bovis) , speaking on behalf of the borough staff, stated that he wished to endorse the remarks of His Worship and Cr. Aitchison . in connection with the sterling services rendered by Mr. Haley, and joined in wishirig Mr. and Mrs. Haley every happiness in the futur'e. - In his brief but fitting reply, Mr, Haley expressed the sincere thanks of Mrs. Haley and himself for the beautiful gift, which would serve to remind him of the many years in which he had. been associated with the borough." Mr. Haley stated #iat he was sorry to leave the staff, as his associations had always been pleasant ones. He had served tinder several different" chairmen of works committees during his period on the staff, and they had all been very happy. • Mr. and Mrs. Haley will be ! remaining in Shannon in the meantime, as they have no fixed idea as to where they will spend the years of their retirement.
