Council Doubtful Of Rest Room Site

Considerable doubt as to the sultability of the .site proposed by the Shannon Rest Room Committee, in a letter • to the Shannon Borough Council, was expressed by members of the council at a meeting On Tuesday night, The letter -asked the permission of the council to build the ladies' rest room and conveniences behind the present borough buildings in Plimmer Terrace. The Mayor (Mr. D. A. Fitzgerald) and Cr. V. J. Bateman, 1 who represent the council oh the rest room committee, both outlined the proposal. Support was forthcoming

from Cr. L. O. Sayer but strong opposition was expressed by Cr. H. iAitchison, who seemed to have the ] support of the remaining members jof the council. j Cr. Sayer moved that the coun- | cil grant- the land as asked. for in the letter, the site to be selected by the council, Cr. Bateman seconding the motion. * Following considerable discussion, Cr. B. Clayton moved an amen'dment to the' elfect that the matter come up for consideration at a later meeting, and that further information be obtained from the rest room committee. The amendment was seconded by Cr. C. G. Wishart. The amendment was placed before the meeting and carried, Crs. Clayton, Norris, Downes, Cronquest, Wishart and Aitchison supporting it and the Mayor and Crs. Bateman and Sayer opposing it. The amendment thus became the motion and was carried.
