Shannon's Need Of Maternity Hospital Outlined
At the request of the Shannon Borough Council, Mr. V. J. Cottle, the couiicil's representative on tlje Palmerston ' North Hospital Board, was present at the fortnightly meeting of the council 011 Tuesday evening to hear Shannon's claim for the establishment of a mater-i iiiity hospital. * I Although many members of the council were unaware -of Mr. , Cottle's proposed visit until he entered the chambers, all put for- ! ward very strong cases why the ! establishment of a maternity hos- 1 pital would be an advantage to j this district. I
Mr. Cottle was not over optimistic of Shannon's chances in the immediate future, but suggested that the council make a case, including all information available, in support of the proposal and present this to the hospital board. The matter would receive his support when" it came before the board, concluded Mr. Cottle. '■ Prior to leaving the meeting, Mr. Cottle was thanked for his visit by the Mayor, Mr. D. A. Fitzgerald.
