Council Considers Borough Matters

' The monthly meeting of the Otaki Borough Council was held on Wednesday ' night, the. Mayor* (Mr. C. F. Atmore) presiding. There were also present, Crs. E. T. Bar•tosh, G. McKinley, E. J. Cook, N. D. Anderson, H. W. Hakaraia and J. L. Rcttor It was repbrted that the repair bf ^ th'e "windows" ' -broken at the Beach pavilion by vandals had not yet been attended to The town clerk (Mr. Alex. Wilson) undertook to see the contractor and arrange for the work to :be carried out as previously arranged. It was stated that the work of dismantling the Rangiuru Bridge was being attended to, and that the enginper engaged would supervise it. It was reported that the pur-. chase of a'mower from the Otaki Golf Club had been satisfactorily arranged. x The widening of Arthur Street ha'd been attended .to, the various .owhers being ih accord to the work done.." The matter of necessary work at the theatre conveniences will receive attention at the hands of the works committee, it being stated chat windows should be made to open their full length. Dog registration fees were fixed at 11s per house dog and 3s 6d for sheep and cattle dogs up to the number of three. Mr. George Canian, showmaji, wrote asking permission to operate a chair-o-plane and hoopla on Mr. Cunningham's section, opposite the Jubilee Hotel from February 17 to 21. It was stated that children under 16 would not be permitted tp attend. One eouncillor objected to granting the licence on account-of the amount .of sickness in the borough, but it was agreed after a short discussion to grant the licence, it being stated that the police in various places had raised no objection. A fee of £3 3s was fixed. Mr. R. L. Kirker applied for a taxi and omnibus licence for a passenger service vehicle. It was stated that. the police had no objection to the granting of the licence, which was desired to enable the applicant to drive a local bus. »
