The club expressed the hope that the work would be eompleted .before its next meeting in May. Considerable preliminary work •was necessary before a conimencement could be made, the • county clerk, Mr. F. H. Hudson, told the meeting. The Public Works Department had indicated that it was prepared to grant a subsidy of £300 i towards the -project, but before that could be finalised an engineering survey had to be made, and specifications prepared and submitte'd to the Department for approval. Even then the Subsidy would' not actually be paid to the council until after the work had been eompleted and the new road

was gazetted a public one. The question of responsibility for fencing the land adjoining the road and the future maintenance of the road had also to be settled. These matters were being proeeeded with. The council decided that this be explained to the club, and it * be informed that the work- would be proeeeded with as quickly as possible.
