Daring Raid By Gang Of Smugglers
Received Tuesdav, 7.55 p.m. BANGKOK, Feli. 9. Two lumdred horsemeu of Yuuan, a smuggiing gang, swept aeross the Siamese border into -Masei reeently, in a danug raid to recover opium valued at £50,000 whifh the Siamese police were a-bout- to seize. Yunan 'sinbgglers .Jiad delfvered the opium into a 'Siamese storehouso but Siamese: buyers had iuh liiade payment for it. When the smugulers lieard that a Siamese Government partv was on ks way to" conliscate the opium, they mounted . horses aml while oue partv drove the police oiit of the storehouse and engaged them in a running gun battle, another cleared the opium sfock ou to waiting horses. The partv escaped, leaving oue horseman killed. They took only a quautity of the opium originally delivered and dul not toucli the remainiug stoclcs.
