Aunt Convicted: Jury Takes Girl's Story
AUCKLAND, Feb. 10. The trial of Nora Catherine Lee, aged 47, on four charges of shoplifting, ended in her eonviction for theft from two city firms and her ' aequittal on tw£ other charges. She was remanded foT sentence. The.,. jury ivas absent for 3:] hours. before teaching a decision. The trinl was conducted by Alr. Justice Finlay and the Crown ease de•pended largely on the evidenee of a .14-vear-old niece of accused, who said she had accompanied her aunt -and was associated with her in taking goods from four city stores. - ' His Honour, in summing up, drew attention to' evidenee tjiat corroborated the girl's st'ory and said Ihe ease resolved itself into a very simple issue of whether the whole story had been mahufac'tured by the girl or whether her evidenee was to be believed.
