m Pcrson.S'l ,Mr. ,and Mrs. A. W. Empson are at present on holiday in Nelson whiie Mrs. Parker is at Havelock North. The latter has made a good recovery from her recent fall although she is still suffering slightly from cuts and bruises. Sharp Earthquake A sharp shock of earthquake was felt in Otaki at 11.14 last night. Pensipn Payments Pensioiis will he paid out this month on the f oliowing dates . Family benefits on the 11th, age on the 18th,' widows, invalids and orphans on the 19th, war on the 23rd and war veterans' allowances on the 26th. Cycling Success A ,very fine effort by D. Smith, the youthful Otaki cyclist, at Wellington on Saturday, 'drew applause from the many spectators wno watched his riding. Smith, who is only 17 years of age, was second in the two mile junior e-vent, riding with .splendid judgment. Recently he won the Laykold Cup. He won : the 880 junior championship, beating both Howes and Alexander, the ' well-known riders. His time was 1 min. 20 secs. Although only sec- ■ ond' in the junior two miles, - he again beat Alexander but failed to overhaul Howes m the sprint for the line. ,
