Altogether 22 1 3 deaths from cancerous diseases occurred in New Zealand last year, whicli is an eighth of the total deaths in the Doininion, accord ing to the seeretarv of*the Auckland hraneh qf the British Empire Chncer campaign, in an address to the Auckland Rotary Club. At least half the deaths from eancerous diseases need not have occurred, he added. A large percerttage of patients did not recognise the symptoms in the ea'iy stnges and did not receive treatment. In hlay his organisation would launch a nationwide campaign for £100,000 to he used for research and to educate people in the early sympv toms. It was essential that patients should not uiuhily worrv. Cancer could • be beaten with knowledge.
