Diarma's Disqualification
The appeal of Peter Dalliessi, of Dunedin, for the reinoval of the disqualification imposed on his horse, DiaVma, was rejeeted by the Appeal Judges of tlie New Zealand Eacing ' Conferenee today. Dalliessi made his appeal under rule 376. The judgment'of the Appeal Judges, Messrs A. T. Douuelly, J. H. Grigg and ■ Dr. M. G. Louisson) read as follows: — ' ' ' Tliis is an appeal by P. Dalliessi, a person at present under disqualification for 10 years for a breach of Eule 338 (1) (a). The' charge against Dalliessi was that, being the o'vyner of the horse, Diarma, he oiTerM a sum oi money as a bribe to L. W. Hare, the rider of Detain, to pull his horse -in the Bluff Handicap at the Southland Raeing Club's meeting on April 19, 1947. Dalliessi was convicted on this charge , Ijy the judicial committee of the South'land Eacing Club. The convietion was coniirnled on appeal by the Southland District Committee and by the Appeal . Judges of the conferenee on June 24, 1947. "The Appeal Judges redueed Dalliessi 's period of disqualification from life to 10 years. As a result of Dalliessi 's disqualification the horse, Diarma, is also disqualified, and this appeal is brouglit under rule 376 by Dajliessi for the removal of the disqualification of the horse, Diarma. '/After hearing Messrs C. S. Thomas and H. S. Ross (counsel for Dalliessi) and Dalliessi, the judges .are of the opinion that no grounds exist for the removal of the disqualification, and the appeal is, 'tlierefore, dismissed. " They also ordered _ that his deposit of £20 be forfeited.
