DECISIVE VICTORY FOR ROBIN'S REWARD
The -Wanganui Centennial meeting was held in. perfect weather and there was a record attendance. The feature race of the day was the Cup and it was won'by Robin's Reward which, after being oue of the ieaders all the way, drew right away in the straight and won easily by four lengths frohi Silver .Treasure. Silver Treasure was in eighth place early and still, wellback at the six. Rnnning to the straight he moved forward with Dunbar aud the pair of •them fought out a royal battle for second money, Silver Treasure getting it by half a neck. Embrolita finished brilliantly in fonrth place, just getting up to beat Yasda. Next was Langue cl'Or ahead of Catterick Bridge and Lady Vite. -
Fassing the stands the first time, • Beau Raide led from Eobin 's Eeward, Bon .Ckale, Catterick Bridge, Loyai Biau, Langue d'Or, Gay Stroller, Silver Treasure and Yasda. The paco was sound. There was little ehango as the field turned into the baek stretch.and Kobin's Eeward aud Yasda went up at the half inile to join Beau Eaide. Tliey led past the three atteuded by Embrolita, Langu6.,d'Or, Dunbar and Gay Stroller. Near the two furlongs, Beau Eaide went back quicklv and Yasda struck trouble and below the distance Eobin 's Eeward liit the front and went on to win easily by four ieugths from Silv.er Treasure which hung on to beat Dunbar. A Record Attendance. There was a record attendance and grand iields and it was early made apparent that the totalisator fatiuties would not be able to cope with the demand for tiekets. Last year the curu over iv as £51, -±36. Tliis year it was £74,813 10s, the increase being £23,377 10s. Leading jockey for the season, W. J. Brougliton, was suspended for two calender uionths 011 a cliarge of careless riding in the Springvale , Juvenile, in which he was on Divided, beaten' lialt a iength bv Buchanan, ridden by J. McFarlaue. Brougliton was allowed to complete his riding engagements for Ihe, day, winning on Franada in the Petre llack aml being second in the Flyiug Handicap 011 Eed Herring. An inquirv was also held into allegations of interferencc in the Cup race. It was found that Silver Treasure interfered with Y'asda in the straight but, after the payout had been held up for some tiiue, tlje. committee announced that the placings would be allowed to staud and 110 furtlier action was taken.
