The-' Hawthorn Salvation Army Band niay be regarded as one Of the pioneer Salvation Ahmy Bahds in . -Australia, as it has been " in Bxistehce since the year 1883. It is recoghised as one of the front Tank aggreghtions, either m or outside of the Salvation Army, The band has traVefied all over Australia ahd has completed . some 28,000 miles of musical meahdefings. It has had some unusual features inasmuch as it was for some time the 39th Battalion Band as well as a Salvation Army combination, and in that circumstance was able to win 15 out of 18 military contests for which it entered, ahd of being A grade champions " for several years. They were colloqUially known. as the "39th Battalion Salvos." Bandmaster H. V. Stevens is a bandmaster who mduoes brilliance in his combination, and throughout the years has delighted many with his musical skill. The bahd ariives in Wellington on Wednesday. The meh are versatile, for in addition to the brass band work, the band possesses some splendid vocalists and instihmehtalists,.
