WHANOAEEI, Feb. 6. A Fijian cricket team was wannly welcomed by a large crowd wheni it arrived at Whangarei this morniug to o-p"en its Domiuion tour, Olorious weather couditions were experienced for the match against Northland representatives who batted first by niutual agreement. A . disappointing start was made, Vipond being run out in the first over ivhen atteinpting to run a three. This had a salutarv effect on tlie other Norllilanders wlio rqspected the Fijians and their smart lielding. After the tea adjouriiment wickets fell to Isoa Logavatu like ninepins, 23 runs costing six wickets. Northland were all out for ]11 just before six o T'lock. The .Fijians agreed to play til^6. 15 p.ui. in order that the spectators might see tliem in action with the bat. Apted and1 Ea'ddoek put 13 on the board - at stumps bnt as four were byes, the batsmen were not given an opportunity to sliow their real form whicli evidently is of a high order.
