Personal Mrs. I. Falconer, of Bryce Street, and her sister-in-law, Miss C. Falconer, of Palmerston North, have returned • after spending a holiday with relatives at Dunedin. Mrs. L. H. Best and Mrs. C. Guerin were the hostesses on behalf of the local branch' of the W.D.F.F. at the "on the spot" refreshment booth at the Shannon saleyards last week when excellent business swelled the funds for sending food parcels to Britain. Four Fires Attended It was reported at the annual meeting of the Shannon Volunteer Fire Brigade* on Monday night, that the brigade had received only four fire alarms during the past year. These had been serious fires and all were extinguished without great loss or damage. Past Official Honoured A tribute to a past superintendent and only life member of the Shannon Volunteer Fire Brigade was made at the annual meeting of the Brigade on Monday night when all present stood in silence as a mark of respect to the late Mr. 'James Curran. This was the first annual meeting of the brigade since Mr. Curran's death.
